And another Miata I want

While I particularly don’t want a silver Miata, I’m not entirely opposed considering how good of quality this one looks. Sure the engine replacement part and the overall high mileage would usually deter me. But my goal was to find a very clean car with a questionable motor. So this should definitely work. Being a one owner car I’d at least have a significant maintenance history so it could definitely be a good platform for a track car. Will know for sure when I check it out next week! I could see myself buying this one on the spot though since it checks every box except for “literally any color other than silver”.

Also on the topic of the Mazdaspeed Miata I looked at today. I really liked it, it would be hard for me to say no if I wasn’t looking to track the car. It really was a very good example for the price. Not perfect but I think worth the money for a collector car of sorts that would be good at Canyon carving factory and just driving around. But I would have to invest too much to make it what I want. It immediately needs a timing belt job, radiator replacement, and some freshening up of brakes and other stuff. There’s also things on a short list like the intercooler, oil cooler, and a few other reliability mods I read about that aren’t really optional. All in I’d be looking at $2k minimum before I’d drive the car. Sooooo I’ll sleep on it before saying no but I just can’t see why it makes sense for me right now. The turbo noises were indeed amazing though. I one day want a turbo Miata but I’ll just make a real one with actual power and proper gearing.

Anybody have good ideas on how to spice up some silver paint? Maybe some colorful wheels or a racing stripe or just wrap/dip the thing. I'm hoping it looks as nice in person as the photos suggest. But yeah I'll have to do something to liven it up for sure.

Black hard top, black front splitter, black wing, black wheels, and orange calipers. I don’t think it needs more color, just less silver. Black side mirrors with a little orange stripe would also rock.

The ad looks really solid - enthusiast owned.

I’m looking at wrapping mine. Either blue fire or wicked (dark purple) from 3m. That said, silver ain’t bad

Get a Civic TR instead. Then you could become Wrong Wheel Drive (100%)

It’s very likely that the window doesn’t need a new regulator, but in fact the window is getting caught on a loose cable inside the door. That description sounds like what happened to my driver door anyway.

That top screws things up for just toning down the silver (and just doesn’t compliment the silver) . I’d probably just wrap it in a color that actually compli ments the top from an “ easy to do” perspective.

Or go the opposite route and switch out the ugly top for something in a red, and then do the accents in a matching color as Nick Has an Exocet suggested.

Have a silver 6 and just had a metallic shimmer shot over it and it is beautiful.

I agree, black stuff would definitely work for me. Just something to contrast it. I really like the black hard top and wing idea. I kind of always wanted a winged miata anyways...

Its like $900 but the APR wing is definitely a proven part. Plus it actually has CFD to back it up.

Yeah that is great looking! I think silver can work for me with some mods. I think its the stock ride height and tan top that throw me off. Definitely wheels more like what you have, moar low, and a couple of black accents really make it look nice. Hard top is always beautiful on an NB. Even though I have no intentions of driving with any top lol.

I’ll have to see how new the top is. I really dont want to go through the hassle of replacing a top that doesnt leak and looks clean. I like that a tonneau cover is included but I doubt I can fit that while also using a roll bar. Generally my opinion is to never put up the top, even when parked.

lol someone gets my percentage based tag there. I had a Civic when I created my name, that was the inspiration for it. My girlfriend also currently has a Civic. So I dont need another Civic in my household!

Wraps are just expensive as hell. I am definitely on board with the lots of black though. F ront lip , nice wing on the back, the black roll bar, different wheels, and ideally a black hard top. Oh and super low on 15x9 wheels , none of this stock suspension crap lol.

Don’tget me wrong, that ain’t mine. Saw one exactly like it in red, and went looking for a ducktail spoiler. That’s one off carbon miatas si te

Oh yeah I just really like it. You could have pretended it was yours lol. I hadnt connected username to picture though, since yours is red. Red is definitely my favorite miata color which is why I was excited to almost buy one. Stupid seller had to go and give the car for free to his child.

I saw that, that sucks. I love my red, but I put a car cover on it, and it killed the clear coat. So I’m negotiating a wrap color with my 3 and 5 year olds. It’s a process, but I’m happy they’re excited to be involved. Good luck finding one. Id look back in VA, but I’m here in California  now and the condition of the cars here is astounding.

Yeah its wild how clean such old cars can be here in general. It is why I am excited to replace my rustbucket. I kind of wish I didnt spend the money and more importantly time to fix my rockers and quarter panels but such is life, live and learn. What sort of prices are you seeing for wraps? I had thought about that even for my current Miata but it seemed way too pricey compared to an acceptable low cost  paint job.

From what I read, just under 30ft will do it.  Add some cost for accessories and prep. Obviously won't last as long as paint.

Oh you plan on DIY wrapping. I wonder how difficult that is to get it right? I guess there are guides out there, I hadnt thought about it before. Could be neat to try for smaller things like mirrors or a trunk lid or something of that nature.

Mmmm that red interior. Cars need more colored interiors. I hate this trend of it MUST BE BLACK OR TAN. Why cant fun colored interiors be a more popular thing? And not just accents but full on color. I love the blue interior on my STi. A nice classic red is so perfect too.

This one has been listed multiple times, I think $7500 for a 26 YO car is a hard sell around here.

Yeah, for a pro job it's comparable in cost to paint. And if we were talking about my current gen Civic or a bangle era BMW, then hell no. But a Miata seems doable. No roof. Start dinner please, like the panel between the hard top bolts. Front bumper has me worried, I'll save that for last. But between this and installing the soft top myself I'll save enough for coil overs.

I guess if its rust free, that is a pretty rare thing around there. But theres also a whole lot of the year where the car just cant be driven at all then. I just dont understand why some miatas cost so much. Like sure I appreciate the car but mainly because of the cost factor. But I guess its a factor of people creating a “collector auora” about it. New miatas are batshit priced as well though, compared to so many other performance bargains out there. So its not that surprising to me I guess. Still, theres a reason it hasnt sold yet. People are nuts to try for months to sell a car. Just sell it at a proper price and get it away quickly. I cant stand that waiting game if I am looking to get rid of something.

Haha thats always the best way to think about cost savings. How many actually useful parts can I get if I save on cosmetic things. That philosophy is why I never painted my Miata. It has meant a whole season of track days instead of one mediocre paint job.

Just think if you dont paint it or spend any money on the looks, then you could spend even more on coilovers! I definitely want to spend $2k on coilovers some day, it would be totally worth it.

I was all set on no cosmetic mods, then I saw a Miata in red nearly identical to that silver one I posted. Then I struggle. Maybe just the spoiler. I don’t know.

But yeah, a $2k set of fox or xidas would be nice!

Ew, silver. Needs blue and blue interior, blue top, and blue rocker stripe .

Alternatively, black interior, black top (with a glass window, why did the seller cheap out on a plastic window?), and black rocker stripe.

People make bad choices sometimes. At least it looks clean and those are correctable issues. Seems like most Miatas are overpriced in my area so at least this one is priced appropriately. I’d feel less bad about arbitrarily changing out a tan top if it’s got a plastic window anyways, so it’s kind of a plus. I’d definitely ignore it forever if it were glass. If it’s a zip out though I’d consider it an improvement. I never drive with the top up except for super hot days at the track. And having a window breeze would be nice.

I’d like to just add black accents, better wheels, and more low to improve the looks. Plus the roll bar should help too. Couple other items on the wishlist too so I’m hoping it turns out to not be junk when I look at it on Friday.
